MSEDCL gives jobs to unemployed engineers
NAGPUR: Energy minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule had finally fulfilled his promise to unemployed electrical engineers, made soon after he took over as minister. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has started awarding small contracts to unemployed engineers on lines of public works department (PWD).
Recently, four unemployed engineers were given contracts by MSEDCL’s Nagpur urban circle.
Many engineers who had registered with the MSEDCL had applied for these contracts. Their names were chosen through lottery and there was no bidding. Five unemployed engineers had registered with Nagpur rural circle and all of them were awarded a contract.
A MSEDCL official told TOI that as per the new policy, 50% work of small maintenance and repair was to be given to unemployed engineers through a lottery system. Each engineer selected through lottery will get works up to Rs 10 lakh but the total amount will not exceed Rs 50 lakh. If an engineer completes the work on time and there is no complaint about the quality then in the second year he or she will get works up to Rs 15 lakh with an annual cap of Rs 75 lakh.
Bawankule has constituted a committee in every district for providing work to unemployed engineers through lottery and without bidding. The superintending engineer (SE) is the head of this committee. Some MSEDCL officers are members of this committee.
Nagpur urban circle SE Ramdas Bundile has appealed to unemployed electrical engineers to contact their concerned MSEDCL division office and obtain information about registration with the company.
